That’s How Time Works

Just the other day, your smile swept me off my feet, yet a decade has elapsed. Just days ago, you said you loved me and wanted me forever, yet the years have crept by. Years since we married, and somehow I remember that day as if no time has passed at all.

How does time move so slowly in the moment and so quickly in the years? Years that have ticked by, yet in your face, I still see the young man I fell in love with.

Your smile still catches me off guard; your kiss still sends shivers down my spine. Your touch still calms me, as your embrace still makes me feel safe. Your eyes gaze into mine, and our souls meet, and for a moment, time does not exist.

I ask you how it feels like just yesterday and an eternity have passed; you smile and say, “That’s how time works.”
